WHO Recommendations identify preconception care as a powerful window of opportunity to reduce maternal and infant morbidity and mortality, and child obesity. Importantly preconception care needs to extend well beyond our current focus on fertility and contraception, if lasting impacts on women’s health are to be realised. This presentation will focus on care for women with overweight and obesity and the need to refocus efforts and evaluate potential population health benefits from providing effective preconception care.
